Regenerative Agriculture Transition Pathways (RATP) Program

As traditional gatherers, women and girls are vital in nourishing the Indigenous communities of the Bakossi Rainforest. Their deep knowledge of the local flora and fauna passed down through generations allows them to efficiently gather fruits, nuts, medicinal plants, and other forest products. In addition to direct consumption, these products often have economic value, and the surplus can be sold in local markets, providing additional income for their families and contributing to the local economy.

The Bakossi Rainforest is threatened by deforestation, climate change, conflict, and changes in land use, which endanger the forest's ecosystems and the Bakossi people's traditional way of life. Reduced forest resources lead to harmful environmental effects and severe economic consequences, including unemployment, poverty, limited access to food and basic needs, and diminished health and well-being.

The Regenerative Agriculture Transition Pathways (RATP) Program empowers Bakossi women and girls through education, capacity building, and market access. This initiative enhances their role in sustainable forest management and improves their socio-economic status. The Project provides the necessary tools, seeds, and training to establish sustainable, resilient farms producing local foods and value-added products, increasing local food security, and rebuilding livelihoods after natural and man-made disasters.

JASD's fundraising efforts cover RATP costs for victims of conflict and climate change in the Bakossi Rainforest. Participants receive tools and hands-on training in regenerative farming methods, such as seed preservation, biofertilizer production, and natural pest control, improving agricultural outcomes, ensuring food security, and enhancing environmental, economic, and cultural resilience.

With your support, the RATP helps break the cycle of environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, cultural erosion, and poverty by promoting sustainable economic development, Indigenous rights, environmental education, and investment in alternative livelihoods.
